Online teaching and learning modules.

OLIVE project outputs. Student-centred instructional design for online teaching and learning.
Developing online learning together.

Four modules were developed as part of the outcomes of OLIVE project for online teaching and learning. The modules aim for increased student engagement and innovative learning environments that support user interactivity and dialogical learning by connecting organically the learning materials with the instructional design and the background readings. Also, the design pays attention to the need to move away from an exclusively western-based narrative by introducing the work of Palestinian scholars and artists into the learning program.

In addition, for deeper engagement learning the instructional design is enriched with arts-based and multimodal methods for better visuality and readability). Critical thinking in peer learning and group work is promoted throughout the material, e.g., by eliminating yes/no questions and integrating questions that activate deep thinking and putting the students’ needs first.

The content of the four modules was built upon a needs-based approach that was delimited in rigorous group work and discussions between staff at the University of Helsinki and Birzeit University in the West Bank, Palestine. The aim is that the modules will be integrated into the curricula of different, existing and possibly new, courses at BZU.

The four modules include: "Online Teaching  in the Practicum”, “Creative Writing”, “Pedagogical Leadership” and “Maker Education”.
