LAPPSi is a research project focused on how young children's literacy and play develop through the implementation of slow and affective pedagogies in early childhood education. The project aims to explore how slow and affective pedagogies can promote equitable opportunities for literacy and play among young children (0–6 years) in early childhood educational environments. It is built on more-than-human perspectives on children and learning. Through ethnographic observations and interviews, we investigate how the affective and relational dimensions of play can support children's early literacy development. The research aims to provide new theoretical and practical insights into how creative and play-based approaches can support children's learning while challenging prevailing societal views on time and productivity in early childhood education.
The project is funded by the Swedish Cultural Foundation from 2025 to 2028.
"So, I think that ‘in between’, could be one way of defining slow pedagogy because this is a small space of wondering, for a pause...In between is this magic space for possibilities and entanglements."
