Marjorie M. Whiteman (1898-1996) served at the US Department of State from 1929 to 1970. During her tenure, she participated in the League of Nations Codification Conference of 1930 and the first United Nations Conference of the Laws of the Sea in 1958. Whiteman edited 15 volumes of Digest of International Law, acclaimed as monumental work indispensable for international lawyers.
