This spring has brought wonderful news for the CHARM project: our Principal Investigator, Professor Tuomas Heikkilä, has received two major recognitions for his scholarly work and public engagement.
First, the University of Helsinki awarded Tuomas the J. V. Snellman Public Information Award 2026, recognising his outstanding work in making research visible and meaningful beyond the university walls. The award highlights his long-standing commitment to bringing scholarly knowledge into public discussion and encouraging researchers to speak to wider audiences.
In addition, Tuomas was awarded the Grand Prize of the Finnish Society of Sciences and Letters: Professor E. J. Nyström’s Prize 2026, worth €50,000, in recognition of his versatile and pioneering research in medieval studies. The prize committee highlighted his scholarly originality, success in securing international research funding, and his ability to lead multidisciplinary projects that reshape the foundations of the field.
These recognitions reflect exactly the spirit of CHARM: combining humanities and natural sciences, building bridges between disciplines, and making research matter both inside and outside academia.
