We are excited to announce the acquisition of a Dino-Lite digital microscope to enhance our pigment and ink studies in CHARM. This cutting-edge tool, widely used in heritage science, allows us to examine medieval manuscripts in unprecedented detail with no damage to the objects.
With high-resolution imaging, IR and UV light capabilities, the Dino-Lite helps reveal features of pigments and inks, such as fluorescence, cracking, or layering. These insights are crucial for understanding the materials and techniques used by medieval artists and scribes. The instrument has been initially developed for the use of e.g. forensic studies to detect faked documents, for example.
By employing forensic methods in historical research, we aim to uncover new stories hidden in manuscripts and charters.
