Emerging viruses and antimicrobial resistance threaten global health. FIERCE unites the Universities of Helsinki, Turku, and Aalto with the Finnish Food Authority and THL, collaborating with hospitals, companies, academic research networks and other health organizations. FIERCE transforms siloed response capabilities into a single One Health discovery-to-impact pipeline — strengthening health care, policy, and preparedness against infectious diseases.
FIERCE is a flagship initiative applying for a flagship funding from the Research Council of Finland Flagship Programme 5 call. The funding decisions will be made late in 2026, if funded, FIERCE will start operating from 1 January 2027.
