Salla Jokela is Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Helsinki. Her research interests lie in urban development, tourism, place branding, landscape, identity politics, and visual culture. She is responsible for contributing to the initial planning and coordination of the Master's Programme in Urban Studies & Planning. Jokela is currently pursuing her Postdoctoral research in the RELATE Centre of Excellence funded by the Academy of Finland.
Jokela completed her PhD in geography in 2014. Her doctoral dissertation examined the role of tourism images in the construction of Finnish national identity. The focus was on the capital city Helsinki, which has been portrayed as a gateway to Finland and a showcase of Finnishness. The results contributed to the understanding of landscape imageries, iconography and identities in Finland.
