Arttu Paarlahti is a university instructor in geography at the University of Helsinki. He specializes in cartography, visualization and GIS. He teaches mostly basic studies for the first year students and helps them enhance their geographical understanding and identity as a geographer. He is senior member of Finnish matriculation examination team for geography where he works as an expert for cartography and geomedia. He also has a link to high school teaching as being a part of a writing team for school books in geography.
In research, Arttu develops methods and educates future geographers to operate with drones (UAV) as part of data collecting and fieldwork. He is specialized in processing remote sensing data with photogrammetric tools and creating 3D-models for research projects and education. He is also a part of a team developing new methods and enhance learning experiences with the help of 3D-models in Virtual Reality learning environments.
