The field of the position is Pathology and the language of instruction is Swedish.
The position will be filled for a fixed term of 1.5.2019 – 31.7.2023.

An appointee to a professorship shall hold a doctoral degree and have top-level scholarly
qualifications, experience in the supervision of scientific research, as well as the ability to provide top-level research-based teaching and to supervise theses and dissertations. In
addition, the appointee shall present documentation of international cooperation in the field of research that he or she represents. Holders of professorships shall also have the skills necessary for serving as an academic leader.
When considering the applicant’s qualifications, attention shall be given to scientific
publications and other research results of scientific value, teaching experience and
pedagogical training, the ability to produce teaching material, other teaching merits and, if
necessary, a demonstration of teaching skills as well as the applicant’s participation in doctoral education. Account shall also be taken of the applicant’s activity in the scientific community, success in obtaining external research funding, international research experience and international elected positions as well as leadership and interaction skills. To ensure that the applicant’s ability to supervise theses and dissertations meets the requirements of the Faculty of Medicine, he or she must have completed the supervision of at least one doctoral dissertation.

The professor will be responsible for teaching pathology for undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education in medicine in Swedish language, and contributes to other tasks in instruction of pathology at undergraduate education and specialisation training.
The professor’s duties also include carrying out and supervising scientific research, following related developments in research, and participating in community relations and Finnish and international cooperation in the field. In addition, the professor’s duties include other tasks assigned to the department.

Applicants may demonstrate their practical knowledge of the field required for the position, for example, by presenting their qualification as a licensed specialist in pathology as well as having clinical experience in the field.

The appointee and the Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa (HUS) may negotiate over a suitable secondary position.

The salary will be based on level 8-10 of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal work performance.
