The newly formed research team led by Henrike Hartung located at the Neuroscience Center, Helsinki Institute of Life Science (HiLIFE) is looking for a

starting in August 2018 or as soon as the best applicant is available.

Our team is interested in the developmental origin of neuropsychiatric disorders and how risk factors that impact during brain development affect the maturation of networks underlying emotional behavior. The project focuses particularly on the developing serotonergic system in rodent models. The successful candidate will investigate how early-activation of the stress axis impacts postnatal serotonergic neurotransmission and how this affects ongoing maturation of target regions using mainly in vivo electrophysiological recording techniques (LFP, single unit, juxtacellular labelling) in combination with pharmacological and anatomical approaches (tract tracing, immunocytochemistry). The position offers a great opportunity to perform collaborative research in an international environment.

Suitable candidates should hold a PhD in neuroscience or related fields and ideally have thorough training and experience in electrophysiology in rodents as well as time series analysis and good programming skills (Matlab). Excellent communication skills in English as well as the ability to work independently are mandatory. The position with a six-month trial period will be initially for 2 years.

Salary will be based on the University salary system for teaching and research personnel, and composed of both task related and personal performance components. The starting salary will be approximately 3 100 euros/month, depending on the appointee’s qualifications and experience. Furthermore, the University of Helsinki offers comprehensive services to its employees, including occupational health care and health insurance, sports facilities, and opportunities for professional development. The Personnel Services office assists employees from abroad with their transition to work and life in Finland.

To apply, please submit your application using the University of Helsinki electronic recruitment system by clicking on Apply for the position. Internal applicants (i.e., current employees of the University of Helsinki) must submit their applications through the SAP HR portal. The closing date is 08.07.2018 but review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
