The Faculty of Medicine promotes scientific research of a high standard and is responsible for providing research-based undergraduate and postgraduate education in medicine, dentistry, psychology and logopedics, as well as for the English-language Master’s Programme in Translational Medicine. The appointment is for 1 year, starting September 1st 2019. The position will be filled with a 6 months trial period. We are looking for an applicant with a PhD degree in the field of biology, biochemistry, pharmacy or equivalent and keen interest in the research field of diabetes and diabetic kidney complication. The project is part of a larger project aiming at developing new medications for obesity and type 2 diabetes. The work includes experimentation with cultured cells and mouse models using various cell biology and protein biochemistry techniques.

The successful candidate is expected to have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary research team is also required. Previous experience in cell culture, cell biology and protein biochemistry techniques and use of mouse models is considered a benefit. The salary (level 5) is based on the salary system of the Finnish universities for teaching and research personnel. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal work performance.
