10 POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER POSITIONS IN EDUCATIONAL SCIENCES

The successful candidates’ research will focus on educational sciences. The position will require both independent and collaborative scientific publishing nationally and internationally, and active seeking for research funding. The faculty also expects that the postdoctoral researcher contributes to its teaching programs and supervision of under-graduate and doctoral students.

An appointee to the position of postdoctoral researcher must hold a doctoral degree in a relevant field, have the ability to conduct independent scientific research, and possess the teaching skills required for the position. The candidate should have a proven capability to publish in scientific journals, have excellent analytical and methodological skills, and be able to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary scientific community. The successful candidate is expected to have excellent skills in written and oral English. The postdoctoral researcher to be appointed should has obtained his/her doctoral degree within the last five years. Applicants who have completed their doctoral degree in the last three years will be given priority in the assessment process.

The duration of the positions may vary from 2-3 years and the faculty may decide to appoint less than 10 persons.

The salary for the positions will be based on level 5 of the demands level chart or teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal performance. The salary is EUR 3,100-3,800 per month, depending on the appointee’s qualifications and experience. There is a six-month trial period for the position.

• Research plan for the intended postdoctoral research activities, including i) a brief description of previous research experience ii) a proposal for the research project that the applicant wants to conduct at the Faculty of Educational Sciences iii) a brief description of the plans for scientific cooperation with the staff of the University of Helsinki, Faculty of Educational Sciences.

The proposed research project should focus on the focus areas of the research at the faculty. These areas are 1) educational research on teaching and learning and 2) educational research on schooling, society and culture.
