University of Helsinki admissions begin

Admissions for the University of Helsinki’s bachelor’s programmes and Finnish- and Swedish-language master’s programmes began today, 14 March 2018, as part of the joint application procedure for higher education. The application period will end on 28 March 2018.

The University of Helsinki completed a major degree reform during 2017. The contents of the degree programmes were updated, and most degrees were made multidisciplinary. Prospective students apply to broad bachelor’s programmes instead of individual major subjects. In fact, major and minor subjects no longer exist. There are 35 bachelor’s and 60 master’s degrees.

Thanks to the degree reform, students need not commit to a single field of science at the bachelor’s stage, and are free to choose their area of specialisation later, as their studies progress. It is possible to apply to an increasingly wide variety of master’s programmes after completing a bachelor’s programme. This enables personalised study paths.

The application period for international master’s programmes ended on 12 January 2018.
