Laaksonen has had a long and varying career that included positions in research, teaching, and consultation. He has, for example, worked as a senior statistician, unit leader and chief methodologist at Statistics Finland. He has also served as a senior researcher at the Finnish National Research Centre for Welfare and as an advisor for the Bank of Finland. In addition, Laaksonen has held multiple positions of trust in several national and multinational organizations, such as the European Institute for Crime Prevention and Control, International Association of Survey Statisticians, and the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA).
Laaksonen is regularly cited and interviewed by the media regarding happiness and life satisfaction experienced by people in different countries. He will give a lecture on survey analysis in the USP Research Methods course on the 11th of October, 2017.
