Effective nature conservation needs different actors

Anna Salomaa will defend her doctoral thesis on Friday 24 November.

Anna Salomaa, MSc, will defend her doctoral thesis entitled: “Actors’ roles and perceptions on the opportunities to increase nature conservation effectiveness: A study of interaction between knowledge and policy process” in the Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences, University of Helsinki, in Auditorium XV, University main building, on 24 November 2017 at 12 noon. The opponent is professor Marie Stenseke from University of Gothenburg and the custos is Jari Niemelä.

Anna's research covers three timely topics in Finnish nature conservation: green infrastructure, voluntary forest conservation and conflicting peatland policy. According to her findings, the use of scientific evidence is not enough for effective nature conservation. It is necessary to combine it with the usage of other knowledge types and involvement of various actors.

The thesis is available in electronic form through the E-thesis.
