VITRI and the Dept. of Forest Sciences are organising a Public Seminar as part of the international forestry course (Managing Sustainable Forest Landscapes) at the Helsinki Summer School.
In recent years, governments of practically all nations of the world have made landmark agreements that will shape the future of human development and the planet - Sustainable Development Goals, Agenda 2030 and Paris Climate Agreement - just to mention the most important ones.
Are we really taking steps towards sustainability? Does the signing of the Paris Climate Agreement mean that climate change is under control? Are we making progress globally? What about Finland?
Looking critically at developments in implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement and on progress towards Sustainable Development Goals one can ask: Are these commitments just empty words of political and business leaders or are they really offering solutions? Who really cares about the future? What kind of trade-offs and synergies are there with different commitments and goals?
The speakers and panelists of the Public Seminar “Sustainability – Action or empty commitments?” will address the above questions and bring insights on possible ways forward.
