Nokia donates €1,5M to the University of Helsinki

Nokia donates €1.5M to the University of Helsinki for natural sciences and especially data science.

Nokia has made a donation of 1.5 M EUR to developing natural sciences and in particular data science at the University of Helsinki. Through collaboration, researchers at Nokia and University of Helsinki work to solve problems in future wireless networks and analytics, says Nokia Chairman of the Board Risto Siilasmaa.

As part of the donation, Nokia, University of Helsinki, and Aalto University have established a joint research unit The Nokia Center for Advanced Research (NCAR). The donations help enable further development in data science algorithms and infrastructures and collaboration with corporations, such as Nokia, brings benefits for both research and industry, says Sasu Tarkoma the head of the Department of Computer Science at University of Helsinki.
