Open positions for 2 postdoctoral researchers at the University of Helsinki

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics invites applications for 2 postdoctoral researchers (mathematics / inverse problems) for full-time two-year positions with a possible extension to one more year. The first full-time position can start between January 1, 2019 and March 1, 2019 and the second position can start between May 1 and September 1, 2019, upon mutual agreement.

The work will be conducted in the research group of professor Matti Lassas and in a project funded by Academy of Finland. The research group of Lassas comprises twelve post-doctoral researchers and PhD students and is affiliated with the Centre of Excellence of Inverse Modelling and Imaging.

Research carried out by the group concentrates on inverse problems for partial differential equations, geometry and stochastical models. The postdoctoral researchers´ work encompasses conducting research in collaboration with members of the research group and a small amount of teaching (approximately 24 hours of lecturing a year).

A successful post doc candidate will have experience of some of the methods used in the research group -- partial differential equations, differential geometry, microlocal analysis, regularization theory, or stochastics. Alternatively, the candidate may have experience of numerical methods for partial differential equations. In addition to the experience on some of the above fields, the candidates shall have a strong interest in working on inverse problems and topics on the interface of applied and pure mathematics.

For the first position the deadline for submitting the application is December 6, 2018.
For the second position the deadline for submitting the application is March 1, 2019.

Please submit your application using the University of Helsinki Recruitment System via the Apply for the position link.
