Portrait of Professor Jari Niemelä unveiled in Viikki

A portrait of Professor Jari Niemelä, former dean of the Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences and the current rector of the University of Helsinki, was unveiled on the Viikki Campus. The portrait is a photograph taken by Meeri Koutaniemi.

Professor Jari Niemelä (born in 1957), rector of the University of Helsinki, served as dean of the Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences from 2004 to 2017. A portrait of Professor Niemelä, commissioned by the Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences, was today unveiled on the Viikki Campus.

The portrait, a photograph taken by Meeri Koutaniemi, was handed over to the art collections of the University of Helsinki, to be put on display in Biocenter 3, Viikinkaari 1, Helsinki.

Jari Niemelä has served as professor of urban ecology since 2005 and was the first director of the Helsinki Institute of Sustainability Science until autumn 2018. In the beginning of August 2018, Niemelä began serving in the position of rector of the University of Helsinki.
