1,145 applicants applied for the Bachelor's program in Biology at the Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences of the University of Helsinki, an increase of 1.6% compared to 2019. The Swedish-language bachelor's program (kandidatprogrammet i biologi) increased its number of applicants by 7.8% to 97 this year.
There were 1,009 applicants for molecular life sciences, and the number increased by as much as 22.3% from 2019. The number of applicants for environmental sciences decreased slightly from last year. There were 656 applicants, which is 8% less than in 2019.
There were a total of 2907 applicants for the Faculty's four bachelor's programs this year.
"A great result in the main application round - it is good to look to the coming academic year," says Helena Åström, Vice Dean of Education at the Faculty of Biosciences and Environmental Sciences.
The University of Helsinki attracted more and more applicants in the joint application of higher education institutions. The total number of applicants increased by 13 percent. There were a total of just over 32,500 applicants (2019: 28,872), of whom 31,193 (2019: 27,531) applied for bachelor's programs and 1,825 (2019: 1,678) for master's programs. The spring 2020 joint application ended on April 1.
