Excellent research in veterinary medicine conducted at the University of Helsinki

The research assessment report specifically commended societal impact and the research environment.

The international research assessment panel has declared the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine excellent in terms of its societal impact. Another element assessed as excellent was its research environment, including the infrastructure (laboratories, the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and research facilities).

The research assessment report specifically states that the One Health approach to research adopted by the Faculty is very well justified and makes the Faculty well positioned for the future.

As the Faculty’s strengths, very good cooperation with industry partners, authorities and the third sector were highlighted. The provision of research-based support for decision-making by legislators and other authorities was also commended.

As­sessed units and research as­sess­ment pan­els

The assessment covered the research carried out by the units of assessment and the results of their research. These units comprised a collection of departments, programmes and research groups which have, or could have, common goals and development plans related to research. The units were defined and decided upon in cooperation with the management of faculties, independent institutes and joint operational units. The units covered all research fields and activities at the University of Helsinki.

The assessment was carried out by the following four international panels: Humanities, Life Sciences, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences. The assessment process was managed by the Research Assessment Office (RAO) and led by the Steering Group.
