Among the factors especially commended in the report were the scientific quality of publications in educational sciences and the field’s high placement in international rankings, with societal impact another highlighted strength of the Faculty.
Johanna Mäkelä, dean of the Faculty of Educational Sciences, and Mirjam Kalland, vice-dean in charge of research affairs, point out that the good results provide encouragement to improve research activities even further.
At the same time, the importance of educational sciences for societal development must be highlighted – human growth, development, learning, interaction, education and teaching are complex research topics.
Multidisciplinarity and the application of various perspectives to phenomena make educational sciences diverse. Another matter receiving attention in the Faculty’s strategic planning is the field’s opportunities to make a difference for the future of the planet.
