HUS Urology department is physically split into two separate sites: Meilahti main campus and Peijas campus.
Meilahti is the main campus of HUS. 50% of urological outpatients visit Meilahti campus. Furthermore, urodynamics and ESWL are located here. Some of the stone related surgery and urological cancer surgery requiring postoperative intensive care are done at Meilahti.
Most of the urological surgery at HUS is done in Peijas including robotic surgery, reconstructive surgery and open surgery. 50% of the outpatients are seen in Peijas. The main urological ward is located in Peijas.
In the pathology laboratories, we analyze cell and tissue samples and conduct hospital autopsies. The pathologist examines samples under a microscope and gives a statement on the sample, which is then sent to the referring physician.
Our urological clinical research unit is located at the Meilahti campus.
Physically, the unit consists of about 100m2 floor space and room for research nurses, investigator, patient and three extra computer spaces for researchers, study monitors etc.
We have one full time research coordinator/research nurse, one part time research nurse and one full time research secretary.
