Confucius Institute at the University of Helsinki Welcomed the Year of the Rat with New Year Celebrations
The Confucius Institute at the University of Helsinki celebrated Chinese New Year with several events. These were the Chinese New Year Lunch Gathering, the Chinese New Year Party and the Chinese New Year Market all held on January 24, 2020.

On January 24, the Confucius Institute at the University of Helsinki organized a Chinese New Year Lunch Gathering to celebrate the Year of the Rat together with colleagues from the University of Helsinki. The lunch offered dumplings, Chinese snacks and drinks. There were many familiar faces from the same corridor the institute is located in.

The Chinese New Year Market was definitely a highlight of the Chinese New Year celebrations in Helsinki. The Chinese New Year Market has been organized in Helsinki since 2007 and has become very popular among locals. This year the weather was cold, however, that did not stop people from watching Peking Opera, dragon dance and other performances. The Confucius Institute at the University of Helsinki had a stand in the market selling textbooks for studying Chinese and some small decorations for the Year of the Rat .

In the evening of Friday 24 January the Confucius Institute at the University of Helsinki organized a party together with CSSA-UH (Chinese Students and Scholars Association at University of Helsinki) at the New Student House. This event was a great chance for students of Chinese language and the Chinese students to meet and celebrate Chinese New Year. There were many fun activities for students such as calligraphy, paper cutting, wrapping dumplings and so on.
