Changes in teaching Chinese at the University of Helsinki
The responsibility of basic-level teaching of Chinese language will transfer from Confucius institute to the Language Centre as of autumn term 2022.

Since 2007 the University of Helsinki has hosted a Confucius Institute, which has focused on teaching Chinese language and culture. The Institute has been based on a partnership with Renmin University of China, which has annually sent teachers to Helsinki. The courses provided have been accessible to students from all faculties.

The fixed-term Agreement between the universities is coming to a close on January 10, 2023, and the University has informed the Renmin University on June 15, 2022 of its intent not to extend the agreement, resulting in ending the Institute’s operations in January. In order to provide adequate teaching of Chinese, teaching resources at the Language Centre are in the process of being increased.
