From December 4 to 6, 2024, the NaPPI team participated in a comprehensive data management training course in Paris, organized by the PHENET and EMPHASIS communities. The training focused on addressing shared challenges in plant phenotyping data management, with a strong emphasis on FAIR principles and plant community (meta)data standards.
Participants from across Europe gained valuable theoretical and practical expertise, including standardizing datasets in MIAPPE format, working with the Phenotyping Hybrid Information System (PHIS), extracting image-based information using AI, managing sequence data with EBI resources, leveraging cloud infrastructure provided by EGI, and implementing ISA-based file solutions. These tools and methodologies provided participants with actionable strategies to enhance their data management workflows.
Led by a panel of experts from institutions such as INRAE (France), Cornell University (USA), FZ Juelich (Germany), University of Helsinki (Finland), University of Napoli (Italy), WUR (Netherlands), and the EGI Foundation, the course highlighted a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary approach to tackling data management needs in the plant phenotyping community.
