The Anatomy department in Biomedicum has long provided services in tissue processing. The service includes paraffin and cryosectioning and services for histological and immuno-histochemical stainings.

The service is tailored according to the user's needs. The technicians can help to determine the right specifications for each sample.

A number of antibodies against intermediate filaments, such as neurofilament, snail, and several laminins and keratins, are also available from the service unit. The antibodies were originally developed by Prof. Ismo Virtanen and his group. The antibodies are produced in mouse cell lines and are supplied as a supernatant.

HE-staining

Responsible person: Helena Taskinen

The hematoxylin-eosin staining is made in the automated system Tissue-Tek DRS that can process 40 slides in one go.

Immunohistochemistry

Responsible person: Onerva Levälampi

For the immunohistochemical stains user needs to provide samples, antibodies and protocols. A test run to determine the appropriate dilution of new antibodies is recommended before a full-scale experiment.
