Online exhibition on the everyday life of the University community during the Covid-19 pandemic

On 24 March 2021, during the anniversary week of the University of Helsinki, the Helsinki University Museum opens the online exhibition entitled ‘When everything changed – Photographs of the everyday life of the University community in the middle of the pandemic’.

When everything changed – Photographs of the everyday life of the University community in the middle of the pandemic

The idea of creating an exhibition together with the University community was conceived to provide a counterbalance to the long period of telecommuting and social distancing. We asked the University’s staff and students to send us photos documenting their everyday life during the Covid-19 pandemic and received more than 200 photos from 56 members of the University community. The photos show empty corridors at the University and staff working from home, and highlight the innovative ways in which people have adjusted to the situation. The virtual exhibition is based on the photos received, some of which will be added to the University Museum’s photographic collection.

Welcome to the virtual opening of the exhibition on Wednesday, 24 March at 12 noon. The opening programme includes museum director Miia-Leena Tiili’s speech and music. The opening can been followed on the University’s YouTube channel. A recording of the event can also be watched afterwards.

While the University Museum’s exhibition spaces are closed, we invite you to visit our online exhibitions!
