Want to try out digital humanities methods? Welcome to the GALE tools webinar on 20 April

The GALE Digital Scholar Lab is a tool used at the university. An introduction to its use will be provided in a webinar on 20 April from 1pm to 3pm, welcome!

The GALE Digital Scholar Lab at the University of Helsinki, which has been in use for some time, provides a hands-on guide to data collection and simple statistical analyses of textual data.

The tool allows users to analyse historical newspaper collections available through GALE (e.g. The Times Digital Archive or Eighteenth Century Collections Online) and to upload their own data for analysis. For all the collections licensed for data mining, see our guide.

Practising the different steps will help you to understand the potential and limitations of text-based computational methods in a concrete way.

GALE webinar on 20 April

A GALE trainer will give an introduction to the tool on 20 April 2023 from 13.00 to 15.00. The webinar is in English and open to all interested university staff and students, no registration required. See the details on Flamma news (requires logging in with the UH user account).
