Helsinki University Library started autumn 2018 Meet Your Librarian (Kirjasto kylässä) visits at campuses, faculties and campus units. The purpose of visits is to bring library closer to its customers and to make the wide range of library services easily available to students, researchers and teachers.
So far, the library has visited the City Centre, Kumpula and Viikki campuses. Meet Your Librarian events are created in collaboration, and visits are customized according to the needs and wishes from the faculties. Meet Your Librarian can be realized as a coffee room event or as a pop-up library – or something else.
"We think that the library should come close to its customers. Not everyone may have time to come to us. Of course, a large part of the library material is available online, so often there is no need to visit the library", says Marja Moisio, information specialist and the head of the open science services group at the Helsinki University Library.
