Helka is on a vacation from July 16: What can I do in the library during the service break?

Printed material cannot be borrowed from the library during Helka's service break, but you can return books and pick up your reservations as usual.

Helsinki University Library will renew its technical platform and this will cause a service break in Helka library database from July 16 until the beginning of August, 2020.

During the break you cannot make reservations or access your customer details in Helka.

You can search and browse all the collections in Helka and access electronic content. Availability status of print books will not be visible in Helka during the service break.

Please note that there might be some inaccuracies in the holding information for our books from June 18, because Helka cannot be properly updated. For example, a textbook might be available, even if Helka says that all copies are borrowed or that the book is ordered, but have not arrived yet. Double check on the shelf, or call the library’s customer service.

Is the library open during the Helka service break? Can I borrow books from Kaisa House?

Kaisa House is open Mon-Fri 8-18, also during the Helka service break. Kaisa House has limited services throughout the summer.

Printed material cannot be borrowed during Helka's service break, but reserved books can be picked up in the self-service pick-up area as usual. Please follow the instructions found at the lobby when picking up reservations. You can return books to the library during the break. They will be returned in the system only after Helka is once again operational.

The Campus Libraries in Kumpula, Meilahti and Viikki will remain closed at least until the beginning of August.
