Upon Request, Helsinki University Library has acquired access to The Chicago Manual of Style Online (CMOS17), which is widely known and respected American writing and style manual for students, teachers, and researches alike in all fields of study, although mainly used by those working in literature, history, and the arts.
This new Chicago Manual of Style Online (CMOS17) continues to show how to cite a wide range of electronic sources nowadays available in addition to traditional printed books and journals. The Chicago Manual of Style Online is easy to use electronically: one can search the online book and instantly follow the volume’s many cross-references between paragraphs via the hyperlinks.
History of The Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS)
The first edition of Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS) was published as early as in 1906. Since then new improved editions have appeared from time to time. One major change happened, when new technologies took over in the publishing industry in the 1990’s, Then Chicago Manual of Style debuted online. The 16th edition of CMOS published in 2010 already provided a broad coverage of the new digital formats such as e-books and web-based publications, and this new 17th edition of the Manual (CMOS17) released in 2017, continues to highlight them as well.
