Johanna Ylipulli is a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Urban and Regional Studies. She received her PhD in Cultural Anthropology in 2015 from the University of Oulu. Throughout her career, Dr. Ylipulli has focused on emergent technologies and their appropriation processes, smart cities and northern urban environments, media and visual culture. Her professional background is colored by interdisciplinarity and she has been conducting research with computer scientists, HCI researchers, architects and interaction designers. Dr. Ylipulli has worked within diverse fieldwork settings and planned and led design-related empirical studies. Her postdoctoral work has concentrated on virtual reality, 3D city models and participatory approaches to design.
