Purpose and amount of funding

    • Seed funding is not granted for preparing personal Academy of Finland application (Research Fellow), however, it can be granted for preparing personal application to the ERC;
    • HELSUS encourages the development of interdisciplinary cross-faculty research projects, but it is not a prerequisite for a good research project.
  • Seed funding can be used e.g. for employing a grant writer or for travel expenses;

    • Seed funding is not granted for your own salary;
    • Use the accompanying excel sheet to prepare the budget to be filled in to the online application form. Please consult the financial controller of your department for help in budgeting.
    • If you are planning to use seed funding for employing, please note that employment contracts shorter than six months are not to be made. Please consult the HR coordinator of your department if considering employing.
  • At most 30 000 € seed funding can be granted per applicant. Please note that due to a limited amount of available funding, the maximum 30 000€ seed funding can be granted only in exceptional cases. A good application has a well justified and realistic budget and does not aim to maximize the amount of applied funding.

International visitors program

  • Funding can be applied to invite distinguished international researchers in sustainability science for a research visit in HELSUS;
  • Visitor funding can be used e.g. for travel expenses and accommodation;
    • Use the accompanying excel sheet to prepare the budget to be filled in to the online application form. Please consult the financial controller of your department for help in budgeting.
  • The funding receiver is expected to facilitate an opportunity for scholarly interaction between the visitor and the HELSUS community. Please specify in your application, how you intend to do this (e.g. by arranging a public talk, an open seminar or a workshop during the visit).
