Speaker Bios:
Hanna Snellman is Vice Rector and Professor of European Ethnology at the University of Helsinki. She received her PhD at the University of Helsinki in 1997 and holds a title of Docent from the University of Oulu (since 1998) and University of Helsinki (since 2001). Since then, she worked as a researcher at the University of Finland, Academy Research Fellow (2004-2007), and HCAS Research Fellow (2008). Since 2012, she is Professor of European Ethnology at the University of Helsinki, and she also served as Vice Dean and Acting Dean at the Faculty of Arts in 2014-2016. Since 2018, Hanne Snellman is Vice Rector at the University of Helsinki. She lives in Helsinki and has 2 children (born in 1991 and 1993) and has been married to a man with 2 children (born in 1990 and 1994) thus having given birth to 2 children but having raised 4 children.
Anna Rotkirch is Research Professor and Director of the Population Research Institute at Väestöliitto, the Family Federation of Finland. She received her PhD at the University of Helsinki in 2000 and has a title of Docent in Social Policy and Women’s Studies also at the University of Helsinki (2001). She worked as University Lecturer at the University of Helsinki, HCAS Research Fellow (2002-2004), and senior researcher funded by the Academy of Finland and Kone Foundation. Since 2010, she has been acting as a Director of the Population Research Institute at Väestöliitto. Anna Rotkirch has recently completed a demographic report for the prime Minister’s Office to examine the causes of current demographic situation in Finland and develop policy recommendations, published in March 2021. She lives in Helsinki and has three children (born in 1996, 1999, and 2005).
Tuomas Forsberg is Professor of International Relations at the University of Tampere and Director of Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies. He received his PhD at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth in 1998 and has a title of Docent at the University of Helsinki (2000) and University of Lapland (2001). He worked as the acting director (1998-2001) and senior research fellow of the Finnish Institute of International Affairs, as Professor of Western European Security Studies at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany (2002-2004) and as Professor of International Relations at the University of Helsinki (2004-2008). Since 2008, he is Professor of International Relations at the University of Tampere and since 2018 Director of Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies. He lives in Helsinki and has three children (born in 2003, 2006 and 2013).
Veronica Walker Vadillo is Postdoctoral Researcher in Maritime Archaeology at the University of Helsinki. She obtained her PhD in Archaeology from the University of Oxford in 2017. Since then, she has held the prestigious Core Fellowship at the Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies (2018-2020) and received the competitive Three-Year Research Grant from the University of Helsinki (2020-2022). She lives in Helsinki with her husband, her three-year-old daughter, and her two cats.
Christian Hakulinen is University Lecturer at the University of Helsinki. He received his PhD in Psychology at the University of Helsinki in 2013 and has a title of Docent in personality and clinical psychology also at the University of Helsinki (2016). Since then, he worked as University Lecturer, Postdoctoral Researcher (funded by the Academy of Finland between 2017-2020), and visiting scholar at Aarhus University. He lives in Espoo and has three children (born in 2016, 2018, and 2021).
