The University's Opening Carnival will take over Kaisa House and Aleksandria on 31 August 2026

The Student Union of the University of Helsinki (HYY) organises the  to open the academic year on Monday, 31 August 2026, between 14:00 and 18:00 at the City Centre Campus. At the Carnival, both new and old students of the University of Helsinki will get a chance to explore the diverse range of organisations operating under HYY.

The organizations will set up their stands in the Kaisa House entrance hall (3rd floor), Learning Centre Aleksandria. the Main Building and the outdoor area of the City Centre Campus. The preparations for the event start at 9:00  and they'll start wrapping things up as soon as the event is over. Fabianinkatu will be closed on the day of the event, which will affect accessibility such as parking in front of the library.

Questions about the library? You can find the library stands in the entrance hall of Kaisa House. At the stand, we are happy to answer questions about the use of the library. If you play the on the Carnival day, we will reward you with the library’s fabulous overall badge!

Customers who wish to work in silence should take into account that the Opening Carnival will cause some noise and traffic in the building.

The library's customer service desk and the self-service machines will operate normally during the event.
