The Periferia art exhibition at the Hyytiälä Forest Station will open again in May with a two-day event. Welcome to join us! You can visit the exhibition throughout the summer until the winter arrives.

The new season of the Periferia multidisciplinary art exhibition, which opened in June last year, begins. The opening of the exhibition will take place at the Hyytiälä Forest Station in Juupajoki, Southern Finland, on Friday 17 May 2024 from 18.00.

The exhibition will feature three new works:

Office for Tree Migration / Agnes Meyer-Brandis (DE)
To Breathe the Forest / Siobhan McDonald (IE)
Metsä vastaa / Forest answers / Kustaa Saksi (FI)

On Saturday 18 May, the event will continue with the The Word for World Is Forest Symposion.

You can find the programme of the two-day opening event here.

Exhibition spreads out in the surroundings of the forest station

The Hyytiälä Forest Station's natural environment, comprising forests and peatlands, serves as the backdrop for a multidisciplinary art exhibition that has been developed over recent years. The exhibition was inaugurated in 2023.

All the artists participating in the exhibition are:

Band of Weeds
Terike Haapoja
IC-98 & Henrika Tavi, Mikael Brygger & Olli-Pekka Tennilä
Juhani Pallasmaa

The works are set in the nature of the forest station, and in the buildings of the station. The exhibition is permanent and will be open every summer in snowless period.

Periferia exhibition is curated by Ulla Taipale. The exhibition has been organised within the framework of the Climate Whirl Arts Programme at INAR (Institute for Atmospheric and Earth System Research), in collaboration with Hyytiälä Forest Station.

The exhibition is funded by the Alfred Kordelin Foundation “Suuret kulttuurihankkeet”. Other supporters are ACCC (Atmosphere and Climate Competence Center), Kone Foundation, Taike, Finnish Cultural Foundation/Pirkanmaa and University of Eastern Finland.

You can stay overnight at the forestry station between Friday and Saturday night and have dinner on Saturday 18 May at your own expense. Bring your swimsuits for the sauna and some BBQ snacks!
