Polymer chemist Yinyin Bao receives international young scientist award

Associate Professor Yinyin Bao from the Department of Chemistry has received the Hanwha-TotalEnergies IUPAC Young Scientist Award, one of the most prestigious international recognitions for early-career polymer chemists.

Associate Professor has been awarded the Hanwha-TotalEnergies IUPAC Young Scientist Award, presented by the (IUPAC). Bao received the award together with Dr Jing Lyu from University College London.

The award, established in 2004 and formerly known as the Samsung-IUPAC Young Scientist Award, honors early-career polymer chemists, typically within 15 years of completing their doctorate. It is presented every other year, ahead of the World Polymer Congress, to researchers selected from a pool of nominated candidates.

Bao's research group at the University of Helsinki develops functional polymers for biomedical, photonic and optoelectronic applications, in particular high-resolution 3D printing of personalized medical devices, advanced light-emitting materials for OLEDs and sustainable polymers for soft robotics.
