In the basic and specialist training of physicians and dentists, the Faculty of Medicine’s most important cooperation partners include the Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa with its hospitals as well as the health centres of Helsinki, Vantaa and Espoo. The Faculty collaborates with the medical faculties of other Finnish universities in the planning of education.
The Faculty engages in research collaboration with other universities, research institutes and companies.
The Faculty conducts brain research in collaboration with Aalto University. This collaboration takes concrete shape in the BioMag Laboratory of the Meilahti Hospital. The laboratory that concentrates on brain and heart research is jointly owned by the University of Helsinki, Aalto University and the Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa.
The Faculty also undertakes diverse research and training cooperation with the National Institute for Health and Welfare and the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health. The Biomedicum Helsinki centre for medical research and training offers excellent opportunities for intra-campus research collaboration. The centre accommodates research groups not only from the University, the University Central Hospital and the Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa, but also from the Folkhälsan Research Centre, the Minerva Foundation, the Aeromedical Centre and the Specialist Unit (environmental and CBRN medicine) of the Centre for Military Medicine, as well as pharmaceutical companies.
