The research in Dentistry and Oral Sciences at the University of Helsinki ranked 28th in this year’s Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities by subject. Last year, the ranking was between 51 and 75, so the position improved by several places.
In 2019, the ranking was 21st, and in 2021 it was 24th.
"This is a great result, of which we are very proud and happy to maintain our high ranking, the second-ranked subject/department in the University of Helsinki and one of only two subjects in the world top 30 list", says the head of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Diseases, Professor David Rice.
"Compared to the global heavyweights of dentistry who have large budgets, we are a relatively small unit, but we have excellent staff and students who are dedicated to research and high academic standards.
The ranking reflects the quality of research and education that a university offers in the given field. The Shanghai ranking criteria include research quality and impact, publications and high-level research and awards.
