GPC Spring Reception to Mark the End of the Academic Year

On Thursday May 11, GPC hosted the Spring Reception in UniCafe Olivia to mark the end of the academic year and to welcome the spring. Dozens of students and faculty members joined us to enjoy the sunny afternoon and to raise our sparkling wine glasses to a successful year of learning, critical thinking, and reflection.

The academic year 2022-2023 has been a memorable one for GPC, with highlights including participating in the debate on climate change through the successful launch of the online MOOC course on Sustainable Consumption in November 2022, co-hosting a prominent panel on “Alternatives to Austerity” with the Faculty of Social Sciences in February 2023, and of course organizing an event in which students could converse with the US Ambassador to Finland, Douglas Hickey and US Ambassador to NATO, Julianne Smith on May 8, 2023.

Perhaps most importantly, however, it has been a year for GPC students to strengthen their research and analytical skills and to participate actively in the public debate in Finland and beyond. Many of the students attending the Spring Reception celebrated finishing their Master´s Theses and submitting them for evaluation just a few days prior to the event. The week (19) also included other important accomplishments, as the Faculty of Social Sciences celebrated its 78thanniversary with a full day of festivities including a courtyard luncheon and building tour of the newly renovated Snellmania (Unioninkatu 37), the headquarters for the Faculty.

GPC thanks all students and faculty members for the past year and wishes them a wonderful summer and well-deserved summer holiday!
