Master Class - Co-creating change

Master Class on uusi oppimisen ja tekemisen tapa: haasteisiin perustuva, yhteisöllinen työskentely- ja oppimisprosessi, jonka aikana opiskelijat ja tutkivat hiovat konkreettisia ratkaisuehdotuksia hyvinvointiyhteiskunnan tulevaisuuden haasteisiin.

Master Class is a multidisciplinary, challenge-based University of Helsinki program for students, young researchers and professionals. The unique program serves as a co-creation platform to develop sustainable, hands-on solutions to real-life challenges defined together with a partner organization.

Master Class started in 2012 as a cooperation between University of Helsinki and LähiTapiola. Since 2013, three “Hyvä yhteiskunta Master Class” programs have taken place with a focus on the future of the welfare society. Some 130 participants, 30 mentors and a good number of experts have tackled issues such as development of health and social services, public-private-people partnerships, safety and security in urban environments and how to create sustainable business models surrounding these issues.

The University of Helsinki and Outotec launched in December 2016 the first challenge-based Sustainability Master Class program for students, young researchers and professionals who are interested in new approaches to innovation as well as learning by doing and co-creation. The second Sustainability Master Class focused on risk management in natural resource-intensive global businesses when operating in very different or challenging environments or transforming business models.
