About

Organising body: The University of Helsinki, Department of Economics and Management together with Sustainable Change Research Network (SUCH)

Time and Place: 13-14th June 2019, Helsinki city centre, Finland

The colloquium

The colloquium is a transdisciplinary and friendly meeting place aimed at people engaged in research, activism and artistic work that challenge mainstream solutions for the challenges that now face the Earth and its habitants. The aim of the colloquium is to move beyond the techno-capitalist regime and call for new and more radical ways for addressing current social-economic crisis. To this aim, we envisage a new narrative of change that is based upon deep transformations rather than mere social and economic reforms. Such a narrative does not outline the transformation, but rather renders visible ‘small’ transformations taking place throughout the globe. We view that these numerous and various transformations enable to alter unjust practices and power structures in a more sustainable and context-specific way.

The 2-day communal event consists of intensive workshops, artistic interventions and hospitable get-togethers in the evenings. After the colloquium there will be an outdoors excursion: experiencing the urban nature and the archipelago of the capital city. There will be no parallel sessions to enable everyone to attend every presentation at the conference. All presenters are considered to be keynotes.

The organisers

We, the organizers, are a group of reflective and critical-minded scholars from various fields, interested in developing new, radical ways for thinking of human-nature relations. The first colloquium took place in Costa Rica at the University for Peace in 2015 and the second colloquium was hosted by University of Lapland in Pyhätunturi in 2017. Each colloquium has different Organising and Scientific Committee. In case you would like to host the PCC in 2021, please get in touch!
