We will meet at the garden on May 25 at 19 for a small bite and sparkling toast. Then we will be treated to a private tour of the greenhouses (approx. 45 minutes), followed by a light dinner catered by Café Viola featuring a trio of robust salads. The seating in the greenhouses is limited; however, there will be a few places to land including benches and portable stools!
The glasshouses of the Kaisaniemi Botanic Garden are a tropical environment all year round. We will be in the lush Rainforest House where you can find everything from coffee bushes to strangler figs. The glasshouses present a cross-section of environments, from the scented forests of the Mediterranean to the dry savannahs and deserts of Africa and further to the lush rainforests of South Africa, there is even a brief glimpse of Australian species.
Please note that even if Finland can still be quite cool in May, we will be supping in a tropical paradise, humidity included! Please dress accordingly in layers as you might need shirtsleeves to enjoy the greenhouses. There are lockers and an unattended coatroom in the space of the greenhouse. The conference dinner is optional and tickets are 55 euros each. Space for the dinner is limited, so please sign up early if you are interested to join!
