Practical info about the Otaniemi venue and walking tour

Address: Otakaari 1, Undergraduate Centre, U wing, M door

The best way to get from Helsinki city centre to Aalto University campus at Otaniemi is by metro. All westbound metros (regardless of whether their terminus is Tapiola or Matinkylä) take you from the Central Railway Station in Helsinki to the Aalto University station in Otaniemi in about 12 minutes. Before your journey, you will need to buy a ticket covering the travel zones A and B.  You can buy single tickets from the ticket machines at the metro stations and other sales points (for details, see https://www.hsl.fi/en/tickets/single-tickets). You can also reach Otaniemi by bus when coming from Helsinki or Espoo.

When arriving at the Aalto University metro station, choose exit A (Otaniementie), which will bring you to the Otaniemi shopping centre (A Bloc), and go out the doors that you see directly in front of you. You will see the Undergraduate Centre (whose address is Otakaari 1) right across the road from the station. The U Wing entrance of the Undergraduate Centre (‘the M door’) is a few minutes’ walk from the metro station.  We will have some student assistants meeting conference participants at the metro station and directing them to the right place.

If you are arriving by car, you will find some parking spaces for visitors around the campus. However, as the majority of the parking spaces are reserved for members of the Aalto University staff, we highly recommend taking the metro.

For additional information on public transport in the greater Helsinki region and a map of Otaniemi campus, see the website of the Language Centre Days.

We will provide a staffed coat check area and some lockers for the event participants in the U Wing of Otakaari 1. Please note that the evening programme starting at 18.00 will be organised at Dipoli (Otakaari 24), so you should take any luggage with you as you leave the Undergraduate Centre. There is a staffed coat check area also at Dipoli. Although coat checks are available at both venues, we do recommend that those staying at a hotel in Helsinki city centre drop off their luggage at the hotel before arriving in Otaniemi, if possible.

The programme includes a walking tour of the Otaniemi campus. The tour, designed to give an overview of the campus architecture, departs from the U Wing lobby at Otakaari 1 at 11.00. If you are interested in the walking tour, please sign up for it  no later than 2 June 2019 and if possible, take care of your registration for the Language Centre Days before the tour starts. The registration opens at 10.00.
