Suomenlinna Excursion

The excursion to Suomenlinna island will take place on Tuesday 25.8 at 10:00.

For the excursion, we will meet at the  in Kauppatori (Market Square). We will gather just before the entrance to the access control, by the information panel (as shown in the photo). The organizers present during the excursion — whom you will be able to recognize by the purple MCC26 badges — will manage the tickets for registered attendants during the event. Please note that if you have luggage with you, it is advisable to leave it at your hotel or at the luggage storage at the Central Railway Station before the excursion, as we will be walking around the island.

We will meet at 10:00 at that point to leave for Suomenlinna. The ferry leaves at 10:19 sharp, and it is better to be there a bit earlier so as not to miss it and also to get a nice spot to enjoy the views of Helsinki during the trip! The trip to the island takes 15 minutes, and from there we will have a relaxed and casual walk around the sea fortress.

If you happen to miss the ferry at 10:19, there will be another one at 10:39 (and then every 20 minutes). Some of us will remain at the departure point in case somebody misses the first ferry, so we can catch up with the rest of the group later on the island. If you want to join later, you can do so on your own by purchasing a ticket through the HSL app or on the ferry using the “tap to pay” system.

We will take the 11:59 ferry back to Helsinki. If, for any reason, you don’t make it to this ferry, as mentioned, there will be more ferries every 20 minutes. Again, some of us will remain on the island for the next ferry in case there are any late attendants.

After the excursion, we will have a couple of hours to have lunch on our own before the conference registration time (14:00). There are plenty of restaurants around the conference venue (University of Helsinki Main Building) that you can choose from. For a student cafeteria nearby, you can choose  (in the same building as the conference), , or . You can also enjoy some traditional Finnish food (sit-down or takeaway) from the market stalls at !
