Giving Day challenges everyone to support research and studying at the University of Helsinki. Each donation provides important support to science and helps researchers and students work for a better world. This year, donations from the day will be allocated to solve sustainable development challenges through research.

The University of Helsinki is one of the best universities in the world. In international university rankings, the University of Helsinki typically ranks among the top 100. Our duty is to find solutions to the important issues facing humanity. Top research needs top resources, which is why we also need your help.

The University of Helsinki’s new field of research, sustainability science, seeks to solve global, acute sustainability problems, such as the complex issues surrounding climate change, poverty or loss of biodiversity. By supporting the University of Helsinki, you are helping us solve these sustainability problems.

The University of Helsinki’s new field of research, sustainability science, seeks to solve global, acute sustainability problems, such as the complex issues surrounding climate change, poverty or loss of biodiversity. The research of the Helsinki Institute of Sustainability Science (HELSUS) focuses primarily on the study of cities, the global south and Arctic areas, systems of sustainable consumption and production as well as the theory and methods of sustainability science.

This year, Giving Day donations will be allocated to solve sustainable development challenges through research. By donating, you are helping the researchers and students at the University of Helsinki work for a better world.

Even a small sum can have a big impact. It’s easy to donate online. Select “Lahjoita tänään -kampanja”, choose the amount of your donation and write a note in the message field. You can also donate ten euros via text message by sending the message HY to 16499. Donations of €1,000 and up can be made through an account transfer with a deed of donation.

Students, spot the giraffe on campus! The giraffe will tour the University’s campuses on Giving Day, 16 April, handing out patches for student overalls. Snap a selfie with the giraffe and get your patch in good time for May Day!

The Giving Day is organized by the fundraising team of University of Helsinki. Contact us at lahjoittajasuhteet(at)helsinki.fi and share with us your ideas. Together we’ll find the best way to move them forward.

The National Police Board has granted the University of Helsinki a fundraising licence (RA/2017/1340), valid 1 January 2018 – 31 December 2022 in all of Finland with the exception of the Åland Islands. The raised funds will be used according to section 2 of the Universities Act (558/2009). The University of Helsinki organises the fundraising independently.
