Prices, Accommodation and Cancellation Policy

Helsinki Summer School course fee includes

  • Registering to the course & customer service
  • Teaching and study facilities in Helsinki
  • Free events of the HSS Social Programme

After you have applied and been accepted to the course

After your acceptance to the course you will have one week (7 days) to pay the course fee. If we do not receive your payment by the deadline, your course reservation will be cancelled. If you wish to renew your registration contact us at summer-school (at) helsinki.fi for further instructions.

We recommend that you do not pay any other fees than the course fee before you have been granted a visa if you require one.

How to pay the fees

Fees are payable through an online bank transfer or with a credit card after you have been accepted.

Please make the payments for the accommodation and / or social programme only after receiving our confirmation e-mail about your reservation and payment instructions.

Payments are made through the Verifone Finland Oy, BlueCommerce website. The realiser of the payment transfer service and the provider of the payment service is Verifone Finland Oy, BlueCommerce (0943819-9) in cooperation with Finnish banks and credit institutions. Verifone Finland Oy, BlueCommerce acquires the payment transaction and delivers the payment to the University of Helsinki. From the user perspective, the service functions in the same way as traditional online payment processes. Verifone Finland Oy is a licensed payment institution.

Course Fees
 

  • Degree and PhD students:
    Early Bird 900 EUR (until 28.2.2019) / normal fee 990 EUR
  • Professionals:
    Early Bird 1400 EUR (until 28.2.2019) / normal fee 1490 EUR
  • Students of the University of Helsinki and the students doing their exchange at the University of Helsinki before or directly after summer school 1 ECTS=15 EUR
  • Helsinki Summer School and University of Helsinki
    Alumni receive a 50 EUR discount of the course fee, provided they do not already study at the University of Helsinki.
  • Excursion Expenses for special courses:
    • Managing Sustainable Forest Landscapes, excursion expenses approximately 190 EUR, paid in cash during the course. Excursion to Hyytiälä Forestry Field Station includes: travel expenses, accommodation at Hyytiälä and meals at Hyytiälä during the excursion

Social Programme Fees

Most HSS Social Programme events are free of charge. However, these two events have fees for all participants:

  • Evening on an Island (Suomenlinna) 25 EUR
  • Wildlife and Sauna Trip (Nuuksio) 75 EUR

N.B. We only have a limited number of places available for these events. Please register to the event in your online application form. You will get a confirmation of your participation when we have processed your application.

Unihome Pihlajamäki

Studio flats only for one person (single occupancy only, no exceptions!) at Vuolukiventie 1, Helsinki. Bedding and towel included. Free Wi-Fi, sauna and laundry facilities.

  • Single room with a bathroom (shared kitchen) 490 EUR / room
  • Studio flat with a kitchenette and bathroom 650 EUR / room

Eurohostel

Both single and twin rooms available. Located at: Linnankatu 9, Helsinki. Bedding and towel included. Free Wi-Fi, coin-operated washing machines.

  • A bed in a “Backpackers” twin room 560 EUR / person
  • A bed in a “Eurohostel” twin room 600 EUR / person
  • A “Eurohostel” single room 920 EUR / room

Accommodation period 2019: Monday August 5 – Friday August 23, 2019

Course Fee

Registration is always binding. The relevant fee is payable after you have been accepted to the Helsinki Summer School.

If you cancel your participation latest May 31, Helsinki Summer School will refund you the course fee minus

  • the service fee (300 EUR)
  • all banking costs.

Please note, that if your course fee is less than the service fee and banking costs together, the course fee will not be refunded.

After May 31, nothing of the course fee will be refunded. The same policy applies if you are forced to cancel because you did not receive a visa.

The course fee cannot be transferred to the Helsinki Summer School taking place the year after.

Accommodation Fee

If you cancel your accommodation latest May 31, Helsinki Summer School will refund the accommodation fee minus

  • the service fee (300 EUR)
  • all banking costs.

After May 31, the accommodation fee will not be refunded. The same policy applies if you are forced to cancel because you did not receive a visa.

Social Programme Fees

The social programme fees (Evening on an Island, Wildlife and Sauna) are non refundable.

Changes in Course Offerings

Should a course be cancelled, the Helsinki Summer School reserves the right to place the student on another course.
