Welcome new TRANSMEDs

Congratulations to our newly admitted Master’s students starting their studies in autumn 2024! The students, staff and faculty of the Master's Programme in Translational Medicine (TRANSMED) are eager to welcome you to start your studies with us!

The admission results (application round from 1 Dec 2023 to 3 Jan 2024) have been sent to the applicants to the e-mail address given on their application form. The results can also be found in the My Studyinfo -service.

Welcome from the programme

TRANSMED programme invites all our prospective new students for studies starting in autumn 2024 to follow this page!

Ater the publication of the admission results, our student tutors will contact you. You will also be invited to an on-line zoom session to meet the programme director and current students get more information of the programme and student life while you are considering your decision concerning the offered study place.

You do not be anxious about the start of the studies or course enrolments in the fall. All new students will get guidance in the planning of the curriculum, selection of courses and enrolment system. You will also receive individual coaching for your personal study plan. 

New students have secured seats on the compulsory courses during the first study term, so you can start your studies efficiently.

The autumn studies start with orientation to the university and to the campus, the dates and times of these events will be informed soon.

 

 

Preparing for your studies

If you do not have any background in cell biology or want to brush up your knowledge, you can prepare for your studies with

  • B Alberts, D Bray, K Hopkin, A Johnson, J Lewis, M Raff, K Roberts, P Walter. Essential Cell Biology, 5th Edition or later, Garland Science.

Later on, you can take an examination on the contents of the book and get study credits to be included in your degree.
 

Orientation and tutoring

The teaching officially starts on 2 September 2024, but the fall term starts with orientation events organised by the university and the TRANSMED programme.

The orientation week is on 27 – 30 August 2024. The week starts with Welcome to the Faculty of Medicine-event Tuesday 27 August 9.15-11.00 in Biomedicum Helsinki, Haartmaninkatu 8, Helsinki. On Wednesday 28 August at 15.00 -15.30 you will attend the Helsinki University Check-In Event with your tutors.

TRANSMED student tutors will contact you to share their contact info, to be available for your questions. Tutors will also help you in the accommodation to the faculty, the TRANSMED programme and the survival in Helsinki in general.

UNITalent Programme for international students

International TRANSMED students can apply to the UNITalent Programme. It is designed to support international students in building professional networks in Finland and to gain insight into field specific working life. Students take part by attending monthly group meetings with hosting organisation for a period of three months. During the programme, the University Career Services also provides training in career management skills.
