Title: Statistical Mechanics and hyperbolic Billiards

Abstract: 
Billiards can be used to model many physically relevant phenomena. The study of such models yields many interesting mathematical questions.
In the last 25 years many new ideas have been developed to further the study of such billiard models, yet we have only scratched the surface. I will try to give an idea of the state of the art and of some of the present challenges.
